CHAPTER (1)

The statement of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) 'Islam is based on five principles'.

And belief is in both saying and acting, and it increases and decreases.  Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) revealed the following verses concerning the subject.

It is in Quran - لِيَزْدَادُوا إِيمَانًا مَّعَ إِيمَانِهِمْ  [That they grow more in  Iman than their present state of belief.] (Al-Fath - 4).

It is in Quran -  وَزِدْنَاهُمْ هُدًى [ And we increased them in (their understanding to benefit from Our) guidance.] (Al-Kahf - 13)

It is in Quran - وَيَزِيدُ اللَّهُ الَّذِينَ اهْتَدَوْا هُدًى [And Allah increases them (in state) who follow guidance and walk on the right path.] (Maryam - 76).

It is in Quran -  وَالَّذِينَ اهْتَدَوْا زَادَهُمْ هُدًى وَآتَاهُمْ تَقْوَاهُمْ  [And those who accept guidance, Allah increases them in their understanding of guidance and bestows upon them His mercy with which they increase in piety and righteousness.   (Mohammad - 17 ).

It is in Quran - وَيَزْدَادَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِيمَانًا [ And the believers will increase in their Iman.]  (Al-Muddththir - 31).

It is in Quran - أَيُّكُمْ زَادَتْهُ هَـٰذِهِ إِيمَانًا ۚ فَأَمَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا فَزَادَتْهُمْ إِيمَانًا  [ Which of you has had his faith increases by it? As for those who believe, it has increased their Iman. (At-Tawba - 124).

It is in Quran -  فَاخْشَوْهُمْ فَزَادَهُمْ إِيمَانًا [Fear them, but it only increased them in Iman.  (Aal-e-Imran - 173)

It is in Quran -  وَمَا زَادَهُمْ إِلَّا إِيمَانًا وَتَسْلِيمًا  [ And it only added to their Iman and submissiveness  (Al-Ahzab -22).

And to love or hate for Allah's sake, is a part of faith.

Umar bin Abdul Aziz wrote to Adi bin Adl as follows : 'Belief includes 'Fara'id', legal laws, Hudud (Boundary limits between lawful and unlawful things) and Sunan (Prophet's ﷺ Sunnah)  And whoever follows (and acts on) all of them has a complete belief, and whoever does not follow them completely (does not act on them), his belief is incomplete.  And should I live I will tell you all about them so that you may act upon them. And should I die,  I am not anxious to have your company (more than what Allah has prescribed for me.)

[But to be stronger in faith.] (Al-Baqara - 260).

Muadh (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) said (to Aswad bin Hilal, one of his companions), 'Let us sit for a while so that we may dedicate that period of time to Iman.'

Ibn Masud (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) said, 'Certitude is perfect Iman'.

Ibn Umar (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) said, 'A person cannot attain true sense of piety unless he removes all suspicions from his heart'.

Mujahid (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) mentioned this verse of Quran -  شَرَعَ لَكُم مِّنَ الدِّينِ مَا وَصَّىٰ بِهِ نُوحًا وَالَّذِي أَوْحَيْنَا إِلَيْكَ وَمَا وَصَّيْنَا بِهِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَمُوسَىٰ وَعِيسَىٰ  [ He has ordained for you (O'Mohammad ﷺ) of religion what He enjoined upon Noah (عليه السلام) and that which We have revealed to you, (O Muhammad ﷺ), and what We enjoined upon Ibrahim (عليه السلام), Musa (عليه السلام) and Isa (عليه السلام)] (Ash-Shura - 13)

[A law and a clear way.] (Al-Maaida-48) and explained that this is Islamic way and Prophet's

Narrated Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ), Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said : 'A time will soon come when the best property of a Muslim will be sheep, which he will take on the top of mountains and the places of rainfall (valleys) so as to flee with his religion from afflictions.

Explanation

We are living in a time which is close to Qiyamah.  The Muslim Ummah is divided into 73 sects and innumerable sub groups.  The persecution of Muslims in the hands of the enemies of Islam and opportunist politicians/rulers is rampant everywhere. The Selfish rulers use religion to solidify their repression and use it to divide people.  In view of their actions, atheism is on rise and people have started viewing religion as a curse.  In this scenario, it is important to keep oneself vigilant from all these opposing winds.

To remain on Sahih Iman and lead our lives in a secluded way, away from the afflictions of this world is not easy.  But whoever tries, Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) is there to help him and safeguard his Iman.

CHAPTER (13)

The statement of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) : 'I know Allah  better, than all of you'

وَأَنَّ الْمَعْرِفَةَ فِعْلُ الْقَلْبِ لِقَوْلِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى: {وَلَكِنْ يُؤَاخِذُكُمْ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ قُلُوبُكُمْ}

And knowledge is the act of heart, as it is referred by the statement of Allah - وَلَكِنْ يُؤَاخِذُكُمْ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ قُلُوبُكُمْ [But he will call you to account for that which your hearts have earned. ] (Al-Baqara - 225)

 Sahih al-Bukhari Vol 1, Bk 2, Hadith # 013

Ummul Momineen Aisha (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہا) narrated,  whenever Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) ordered people to do something, he used to order them deeds that were easier for them to perform.  They (some) said, 'O Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم)! we are not like you. Allah has forgiven your past and future sins.'  So Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) became angry and it was apparent on his face.  He said, "I am the most righteous among you and know Allah better than all of you.'

Explanation

The following four issues are important  for correct comprehension of the above Hadith.

(i) Prophet Mohammed (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) is most righteous and knows Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) more than anyone else in the whole Cosmos.

(ii) It is mandatory to obey Prophet's (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) commandments without any reservations.

(iii) Prophet's (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) commandments are easier to perform.

(iv)  Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) is sinless.

(i) The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) is most righteous and knows Allah more than anyone else in this Cosmos.

It is in Quran –   يَا أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ إِنَّا أَرْسَلْنَاكَ شَاهِدًا وَمُبَشِّرًا وَنَذِيرًا - وَدَاعِيًا إِلَى اللَّهِ بِإِذْنِهِ وَسِرَاجًا مُّنِيرًا [ O'Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) Truly, We have sent you as a Witness, a Bearer of Glad tidings and a Warner (for the entire cosmos); and one who invites to Allah's (grace) by His consent, and as a lamp spreading light (into the whole cosmos). (Al-Ahzaab 45-46)

In the above verse Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) is described as 'Lamp spreading light' (into the whole cosmos).  He is also referred as a 'Witness', a bearer of glad tidings and the one who warns to humanity.  A witness is the one who knows about all the physical and spiritual aspects of this Cosmos.

(ii) It is mandatory to obey  Prophet's (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) commands in every walk of life.

It is in Quran -  لَّقَدْ كَانَ لَكُمْ فِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ لِّمَن كَانَ يَرْجُو اللَّهَ وَالْيَوْمَ الْآخِرَ وَذَكَرَ اللَّهَ كَثِيرًا  [ Certainly you have in the Apostle of Allah ﷺ an excellent example,  for him who hopes in Allah and the after life and remembers Allah much. ] (Al-Ahzaab - 21).

It is in Quran -  وَمَا آتَاكُمُ الرَّسُولُ فَخُذُوهُ وَمَا نَهَاكُمْ عَنْهُ فَانتَهُوا  [And whatever the Apostle ﷺ gives you, accept it, and from whatever he forbids you, refrain from it. ] (Al-Hashr - 7)

(iii) Prophet's (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) commandments are easier to perform.

Whenever Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) ordered people to do something, he used to order them deeds that were easier for them to perform.

(a) It is in Hadith - It was narrated from Abu Huraira (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said : 'Were it not that it would be too difficult for my Ummah, I would have commanded them to use Siwak at (the time of) every Salah.' (Kitab at-tahara, Nasai)

(b) It is in Hadith - Hazrat Abu Dhar Ghifari (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) narrated that 'we (the Companions) observed fasts of Ramadan with the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم). In the whole month the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) did not lead us in ( 20 Raka Taraweeh) prayer, until there were 7 days left in the month. The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) then led us in (Taraweeh) prayer on the 23rd, 25th and 27th night. (Abu Dawood)

(c) It is in Hadith - Ummul Momineen Aisha (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہا) narrated that  'after these nights (23, 25 and 27) the congregation ( for 20 Raka Taraweeh prayer)  grew to a very large number on the 29th night. The Masjid of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) had become filled to capacity. On this night, the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) only came out to lead the people for the Fajr prayer. After the Fajr prayer, the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said : ‘I knew that you had gathered for the night (Taraweeh) prayer but I feared that this prayer would become compulsory (Fard) upon you, and you would find it difficult to fulfill.' (Bukhari)

(iv) Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) is sinless.

(a) It is in Quran -  وَمَا يَنطِقُ عَنِ الْهَوَىٰ - إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا وَحْيٌ يُوحَىٰ [ The Prophet ﷺ does not speak out of desire.  It is the revelation that is coming to him.] (An-Najm - 3-4)

(b) It is in Hadith - Qatadah reported : I said, “Ummul Momineen, tell me about the character of the Apostle of Allah, (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم). Ummul Momineen Aisha (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہا) said, 'Have you not read the Quran?' I said, “Of course!” Ummul Momineen Aisha (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہا)  said, 'Verily, the character of the Prophet of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) was the Quran.'  (Muslim).

(c) It is in Quran -   إِنَّ اللَّهَ وَمَلَائِكَتَهُ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ۚ يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا صَلُّوا عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمُوا تَسْلِيمًا  [Indeed, Allah confers blessing upon the Prophet ﷺ, and His angels echo Him in doing so. O'you who have believed, pray (also) for Allah's blessings, and peace upon the Prophet ﷺ. ] (Al-Ahzaab - 56)

(d) It is in Hadith - Jabir Ibn Abdullah (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) asked the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم), O' Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) may my father and mother be sacrificed for you, tell me the first thing Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) created before all things.'  The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said : O'Jabir (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ), the first thing Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) created was the light of your Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) from His light.  (And everything else was created from that light). (Part of the Hadith).

The above Hadith was narrated by Abdur Razzaq (d. 211 AH) in his Musannaf according to Qastallani in al-Mawahib al-Laduniyya (1:55) and Zarqani in his Sahrh al-Mawahib (1:56 of the Matba'a al-Amira, Edn, Cairo).

Abdur Razzaq is one of the authentic and reliable narrators.  Bukhari took 120 and Muslim took 400 Ahadith from him.

Baihaqi narrated the above Hadith with a different wording in 'Dala'il al-Nubawwa, according to Zurqani in his Sharh al-Mawahib (1:56 of the Matba'a al-Amira, Cairo.) Diyarbakri narrated it in 'Tarikh al-Khamis (1-20).

In the light of the above Quranic verses and Ahadith, how can a sin be associated with the person of Prophet

Correct understanding of the following Quranic verse.

[That may Allah forgive you the past sins and the sins that may follow and complete His favor to you and keep you on the right path. (Al-Fath - 2).

The addressee of the above verse is surely the person who is associated with, and is following, the Prophet

[And if, when they wronged themselves, they had come to you, (O'Mohammad ﷺ), and asked forgiveness of Allah,  and the Apostle ﷺ had asked forgiveness for them, they would have found Allah accepting the repentance and Merciful.] (An-Nisa - 64)

(g) It is in Quran - قُلْ يَا عِبَادِيَ الَّذِينَ أَسْرَفُوا عَلَىٰ أَنفُسِهِمْ لَا تَقْنَطُوا مِن رَّحْمَةِ اللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ جَمِيعًا ۚ إِنَّهُ هُوَ الْغَفُورُ الرَّحِيمُ  [ Say, O'My servants who have transgressed against themselves (by sinning), do not despair of the mercy of Allah.  Indeed, Allah forgives all sins (preceding and following).  Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful."  (Az-Zumar - 53).

CHAPTER (14)

Whoever hates to revert to Kufr as he hates to be thrown in Fire, is part of Iman

Sahih al-Bukhari Vol 1, Bk 2, Hadith # 014

Narrated Anas (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ), the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said : 'Whoever possesses the following three qualities will taste the sweetness of faith.  (i) The one to whom Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) and His Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) become dearer than anything else.  (ii) Who loves a person and he loves him only for Allah's sake. (iii) Who hates to revert to disbelief (Atheism) after Allah has brought (saved) him out from it,  as he hates to be thrown in (Hell) Fire.

CHAPTER (15)

The grades in superiority of the believers will be according to their good deeds

Sahih al-Bukhari Vol 1, Bk 2, Hadith # 015

Narrated Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ), the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said : 'When the people of Paradise will enter Paradise and the people of Hell will go to Hell, Allah will order those who have had faith equal to the weight of a grain of mustard seed to be taken out from Hell. So they will be taken out,  but (by then) they will be blackened (charred). Then they will be put in the river of Haya' (rain) or Hayat (life) (the Narrator is in doubt as to which is the right term), and they will revive like a grain that grows near the bank of a flood channel.  Don't you see that the black seed transforms into a little plant and comes out of the Earth bend, (slightly) yellowish (in color).

Sahih al-Bukhari Vol 1, Bk 2, Hadith # 016

Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ), Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said : 'While I was sleeping I saw (in a dream) some people wearing shirts of which some were reaching up to the breasts only, while others were even shorter than that. Umar bin Al-Khattab (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) was shown wearing a shirt that he was dragging.' The people asked, "How did you interpret it, O'Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم)?'  He (the Prophet ﷺ) ) replied, 'it is the religion.'

CHAPTER (16)

Haya is a part ofIman

Sahih al-Bukhari Vol 1, Bk 2, Hadith # 017

Narrated 'Abdullah bin Umar (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ), Once Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) passed by an Ansari who was admonishing his brother regarding Haya'.  On that Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said, "Leave him as Haya' is a part of Iman.'

CHAPTER (17)

بَابُ : {فَإِنْ تَابُوا وَأَقَامُوا الصَّلاَةَ وَآتَوُا الزَّكَاةَ فَخَلُّوا سَبِيلَهُمْ}

The Statement of Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) - But if they repent,  and establish Salah  and pay Zakat then leave their way free. (At-Tawba - 5)

Sahih al-Bukhari Vol 1, Bk 2, Hadith # 018

Narrated Ibn Umar (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ),  Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said : 'I have been commanded by (Allah - سبحانه و تعالى) to fight against the people until they testify that there is no god but Allah and that Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) is Allah's Apostle, and establish Salah and pay Zakat.  If they perform that, they save their lives and property from me, except for Islamic laws, and then their reckoning (accounts) will be done by Allah (سبحانه و تعالى).'

Explanation

It is in Quran - لَا إِكْرَاهَ فِي الدِّينِ ۖ قَد تَّبَيَّنَ الرُّشْدُ مِنَ الْغَيِّ ۚ فَمَن يَكْفُرْ بِالطَّاغُوتِ وَيُؤْمِن بِاللَّهِ فَقَدِ اسْتَمْسَكَ بِالْعُرْوَةِ الْوُثْقَىٰ لَا انفِصَامَ لَهَا ۗ وَاللَّهُ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ [ There shall be no compulsion in (acceptance of) the religion. The right course has become clear from the wrong.  So whoever disbelieves in Taghut and believes in Allah has grasped the most trustworthy handhold with no break in it.  And Allah is Hearing and Knowing.] (Al-Baqara - 256).

It is in Hadith - The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said, 'Jibreel (عليه السلام) was so adamant in reminding me to be charitable with my neighbor that I thought my neighbor would be made my heir. (Bukhari)

It is in Hadith - The Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said :  He is not a believer who eats his fill whilst his neighbor beside him goes hungry' (Bukhari).

In both the above Ahadith, there is no mention that the neighbor should be a Muslim.  His faith, ethnicity and color, does not matter.

Thus, Hadith # 18 above is meant for those non-believers who fight and kill Muslims and expel them from their homes.  These non-believers are identified in the following Quranic verses.

[Allah does not forbid you from those who do not fight you because of religion and do not expel you from your homes - from being righteous toward them and acting justly toward them. Indeed, Allah loves those who act justly.  Allah only forbids you from those who fight you because of religion and expel you from your homes and aid in your expulsion - (forbids) that you make allies of them. And whoever makes allies of them, then it is those who are the wrongdoers. (Al-Mumtahana - 8-9).

CHAPTER (18)

Whoever says that Iman is action (good deeds)

لِقَوْلِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى : {وَتِلْكَ الْجَنَّةُ الَّتِي أُورِثْتُمُوهَا بِمَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ}. وَقَالَ عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ فِي قَوْلِهِ تَعَالَى: {فَوَرَبِّكَ لَنَسْأَلَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ عَمَّا  كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ} عَنْ قَوْلِ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ.  وَقَالَ: {لِمِثْلِ هَذَا فَلْيَعْمَلِ الْعَامِلُونَ}

Referring to the statement of Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) - [And this is the paradise which you have been made to inherit because of your deeds which you used to do (in the physical world). (Az-Zukhruf-72).

A number of knowledgeable Ulema have explained this verse - [ So by your Lord (O'Prophet  ﷺ), we shall certainly call all of them to account for all that they used to do. (Al-Hijr - 92-93).

And the statement of Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) 'There is no god by Allah'.  And Allah said, 'For the like of this, let the workers (on Earth) work (As-Saaffaat - 61).

 Sahih al-Bukhari Vol 1, Bk 2, Hadith # 019

Narrated Abu Huraira (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) was asked, 'What is the best deed?'  He replied, 'To believe in Allah and His Apostle (Mohammad ﷺ). The questioner then asked, 'What is the next (in goodness)? He replied, 'To participate in Jihad  in Allah's Cause.' The questioner again asked, 'What is the next (in goodness)? He replied, 'To perform Hajj Mubrur ( A Hajj which accepted by Allah  عَزَّ وَجَلَّ).

CHAPTER (19)

If one does not embrace Islam truly but does so by compulsion or for fear of being killed (then that man is not a believer)

لِقَوْلِهِ تَعَالَى : {قَالَتِ الأَعْرَابُ آمَنَّا قُلْ لَمْ تُؤْمِنُوا وَلَكِنْ قُولُوا أَسْلَمْنَا}. فَإِذَا كَانَ عَلَى الْحَقِيقَةِ فَهُوَ عَلَى قَوْلِهِ جَلَّ ذِكْرُهُ : {إِنَّ الدِّينَ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ الإِسْلاَمُ} ، {وَمَنْ يَبْتَغِ غَيْرَ الإِسْلاَمِ دِينًا فَلَنْ يُقْبَلَ مِنْهُ}

As per the statement of Allah (سبحانه و تعالى) ' The bedouins say, 'We believe'.  'Say (O'Apostle ﷺ), you believe not but you only say we have surrendered (in Islam) (Al-Hujuraat-14)

And if they had embraced Islam truly, their Islam would have been as is referred to in the statement of Allah - 'Truly the religion with Allah is Islam. (Aal-e-Imran-19).

(And this Quranic verse) - 'And whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers'. (Aal-e-Imran-85).

 Sahih al-Bukhari Vol 1, Bk 2, Hadith # 020

Narrated Sa'd (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) distributed (Zakat) among (a group of) people while I was sitting there but Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) left a man whom I thought the best of the lot.  I asked, 'O Allah's Apostle Why have you left that person? By Allah I regard him as a faithful believer.' The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) commented : 'Or merely a Muslim.' I remained quiet for a while, but could not help repeating my question because of what I knew about him. And then asked Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم), "Why have you left so and so? By Allah! He is a faithful believer.' The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) again said, 'Or merely a Muslim.' And I could not help repeating my question because of what I knew about him. Then the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said, "O Sa'd (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ)! I give to a person while another is dearer to me, for fear that he might be thrown on his face in the Fire by Allah.'

Explanation

The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) used to take care in the distribution of bounties.  The new converts were given preference over the ones whose Iman was strong and who were in Prophet's (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) company for a long time.  It is because, the people whose hearts were strong in Iman would not bother much for the worldly rewards.  They would focus more on the rewards in Hereafter.

There is a famous Hadith narrated by Hadhrat Ali (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ)  in which Fatima (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہا) was not provided with a house maid, while others were given.

It is in Hadith -  It is reported on the authority of Hadhrat Ali (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) that Fatima (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہا) had corns in her hand because of working at the hand-mill. There had fallen to the lot of Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) some prisoners of war.  She (Fatima رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہا) came to the Prophet صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم (to request for one to be given to her to help her at home) but she did not find him (in the house). She met Ummul Momineen A'isha (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہا) and informed her (about her hardship). When Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) came, Ummul Momineen A'isha (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہا) informed him about the visit of Fatima (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہا). Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) came to them. (But, by that time) they had gone to bed for sleep.

Hadhrat Ali  (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) further (reported) :

(When Allah's Apostle ﷺ arrived at our home) we tried to stand up (from our beds as a mark of respect) but Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said : Keep to your beds, and he sat among (beside) us and (his feet was touching my chest, and) I felt the coolness of his feet. He then said : May I not direct you to something better than what you have asked for? When you go to your bed, you should recite Takbir (Allah-o-Akbar - الله اكبر) thirty-four times and Tasbih (Subhan Allah - سبحان الله) thirty-three times and Tahmid (al-Hamdu li-Allah - الحمد لِلّه) thirty-three times, and that is better than the servant for you.  (Bukhari and Muslim).

CHAPTER (20)

To greet is a part of Islam

And Ammar (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) said, 'whoever acquires the following three qualities, will acquire Iman. (i) To treat others as one likes to be treated by others. (ii)  To greet everyone, and (iii) To spend in Allah's cause in spite of poverty.

 Sahih al-Bukhari Vol 1, Bk 2, Hadith # 021

Narrated Abdullah bin Amr (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ),  a person asked Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) 'What (type of) deeds in,  or (what qualities of) Islam are good?' He (Allah's Apostle ﷺ) replied, To feed (the poor) and greet those whom you know and those whom you don't know.'

CHAPTER (21)

To be ungrateful to one's husband. And disbelief is of (different grades) lesser (or greater) degrees.

This is narrated by Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ), on the authority of Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم).

 Sahih al-Bukhari Vol 1, Bk 2, Hadith # 022

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ), the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said : 'I was shown the Hell-fire and that the majority of its dwellers were women who were ungrateful.'  It was asked, 'Do they disbelieve in Allah?' (or are they ungrateful to Allah?) He replied, 'They are ungrateful to their husbands and are ungrateful for the favors and the good (charitable deeds) done to them. If you have always been good (benevolent) to one of them and then she sees something in you (not of her liking), she will say, 'I have never received any good from you.'

CHAPTER (22)

Sins are from ignorance and a sinner is not a disbeliever unless he commits shirk.

As per Prophet's (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) statement, 'You will have some characteristics of ignorance'.  And the statement of Allah - 'Surely Allah does not forgive that anything should be associated with Him, and forgives what is besides that,  to whosoever He pleases' (An-Nisa - 48)

Sahih al-Bukhari Vol 1, Bk 2, Hadith # 023

Narrated Al-Ma'rur (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ), at Ar-Rabadha I met Abu Dhar (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) who was wearing a cloak, and his slave, too, was wearing a similar one. I asked about the reason for it. He replied, 'I abused a person by calling his mother with bad names.' The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said to me, 'O Abu Dhar (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ)! Did you abuse him by calling his mother with bad names? You still have some characteristics of ignorance. Your slaves are your brothers and Allah has put them under your command. So whoever has a brother under his command should feed him of what he eats and dress him of what he wears. Do not ask them (slaves) to do things beyond their capacity (power) and if you do so, then help them.'

CHAPTER (22 A)

And if two parties (or groups) from among the believers fall to fighting, then make peace between them both. (Al-Hujuraat - 9).  Allah has called them 'believers'

 Sahih al-Bukhari Vol 1, Bk 2, Hadith # 024

Narrated Al-Ahnaf bin Qais (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) while I was going to help this man (Ali Ibn Abi Talibؓ ), Abu Bakra (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) met me and asked, "Where are you going?' I replied, 'I am going to help that person.' He said, 'Go back for I have heard Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) saying, 'When two Muslims fight (meet) each other with their swords, both the murderer as well as the murdered will go to the Hell-fire.'  I said, 'O Allah's Apostle It is all right for the murderer but what about the murdered one?' Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) replied, "He surely had the intention to kill his companion.'

Explanation

When Muslims fight with each other, there are three scenarios, as follows.

(i) Two groups are fighting wrongly, for a wrong cause.  In this scenario, they both are treated as murderers. The above Hadith is related to these groups. However, the reference of Hadhrat Ali (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) in the Hadith, needs to be understood in its proper perspective.  This is explained in point # (iii) below.

(ii) Two groups are fighting, and it is well known fact that one is on the right path, and the other is wrong. In this scenario, we are required to support and fight on behalf of the rightful group. The following Quranic verse is related to this scenario.

(And if two parties of the believers fight (and kill each other), make peace between them; but if one of them acts wrongfully towards the other, fight that which acts wrongfully until it returns to Allah's command; then if it returns, make peace between them with justice and act equitably; surely Allah loves those who act equitably. (Al-Hujraat - 9)

(iii) Two groups are fighting, while one is wrong and the other is right.  And it is not possible to help the rightful group because the wrong group are  powerful oppressors. The following Hadith is related to this scenario.

It is in Hadith - Ibn Abbas ( رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ ) said to me and to his son Ali, "Go to Abu Sa'id ( رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ ) and listen to what he narrates." So we went and found him in a garden looking after it.  He picked up his Rida', wore it and sat down and started narrating till the topic of the construction of the mosque reached. He said, "We were carrying one adobe at a time while 'Ammar ( رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ ) was carrying two. The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) saw him and started removing the dust from his body and said, "May Allah be Merciful to 'Ammar ( رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ ). He will be killed by a rebellious, aggressive group. He will be inviting them to Paradise and they will invite him to Hell-fire." 'Ammar ( رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ ) said, "I seek refuge with Allah from affliction." (Bukhari)

Hadhrat Ammar (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) was killed in the battle of Siffeen, fighting along side Hadhrat Ali (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ). Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) had foretold that Muawiya (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) and his followers were rebellious aggressive group inviting people to Hell.

As far as Hadhrat Ali (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) is concerned, he was fighting for the cause of Islam. The entire Ummah was required to fight along with him against the rebel group.

The Hadith of Ammar (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) is a continuous Narration (Hadith-e-Mutawatir) so much so that even Muawiya (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) could not deny it when Abdullah bin Umar ( رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ ) mentioned it to him. Muawiya ( رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ ) replied : 'He was killed by those who brought him to our swords.'

It is Ijma of Jurists of Hijaz (Makka and Madina) and Iraq (Kufa and Basra), among them Imam Malik, Imam Shafi'i, Imam Abu Hanifa, Imam Awzai and majority of theologians and Muslims that Hadhrat Ali ( رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ ) was on Haq in his fight against the people of Siffeen and those who fought him were Oppressive Mutineers.  Read more

If someone has a sway or is a leader whose opinion matters, he should arrange peace between the two warring groups of Muslims to avoid bloodshed even if he knows that one group is on the right path, and the other is on the wrong.  If he cannot fight against the wrong group, he should advice them to correct themselves. If they agree, it is fine, if they don't, then leave it to God to punish them for their wrongful actions.  This is what Hadhrat Hassan bin Ali (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) did when he signed a peace treaty with  Muawiya (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ).

It is in Hadith - Hasan al-Basri  ( رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ ) narrated, "I heard Abu Bakra ( رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ ) say, 'I saw the Prophet, (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) on the pulpit while Hadhrat Hasan Ibn Ali ( رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ ) was beside him. He would face the people one moment, and him the other. He said - إِنَّ ابْنِي هذَا سَيِّدٌ وَلَعَلَّ اللهَ تَعَالَى أَنْ يُصْلِحَ بِهِ بَيْنَ فِئَتَيْنِ عَظِيمَتَيْنِ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِين  ( This son of mine is a leader/master. Perhaps Allah (سبحانہ و تعا لی) will make peace between two big parties of Muslims through him) (Part of the Hadith). (Bukhari)

Narrated Abdullah bin Masood (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) When the following Verse was revealed -   الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَلَمْ يَلْبِسُوا إِيمَانَهُم بِظُلْمٍ  [It is those who believe and confuse not their belief with Zulm] (Al-An'aam - 82) the companions of Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) asked, "Who is among us who had not done injustice (wrong)?' Allah revealed - ‏إِنَّ الشِّرْكَ لَظُلْمٌ عَظِيمٌ [ 'Indeed, to associate something with Allah (in His Unity or attributes is great injustice. (Luqman - 13)

Narrated Abu Huraira (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said : 'The signs of a hypocrite are three, (i) Whenever he speaks, he tells a lie. (ii) Whenever he promises, he always breaks it (his promise ). And (iii) If you trust him, he proves to be dishonest.

 Sahih al-Bukhari Vol 1, Bk 2, Hadith # 027

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Amr (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said : 'Whoever has the following four (characteristics) will be a pure hypocrite. (i) Whenever he is entrusted, he betrays. (ii) Whenever he speaks, he tells a lie. (iii) Whenever he makes a covenant, he proves treacherous. (iv) Whenever he quarrels, he behaves in a very imprudent, evil and insulting manner.'   'Whoever has one of the four characteristics will have one characteristic of hypocrisy unless and until he gives it up.'

Explanation

It is important for Muslims to give up these traits altogether.  People do not take these things seriously. If you die in the state of hypocrisy, then your life in Hereafter could become miserable.

Narrated Abu Huraira (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ), Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said, "Whoever establishes the prayers on the night of Qadr out of sincere faith and hoping to attain Allah's rewards then all his past sins will be forgiven.'

Narrated Abu Huraira (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ), the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said : 'The person who participates in (fighting) in Allah's (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) cause and nothing compels him to do so except belief in Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) and His Apostles (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم), will be recompensed by Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) either with a reward or booty,  or will be admitted to Paradise (if martyred). Had I not found it difficult for the people of my Ummah, then I would not remain behind any Army Unit (سَرِيَّةٍ)  going for Jihad and I would have loved to be martyred in Allah's (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) cause and then made alive, and then martyred and then made alive, and then again martyred in His cause."

Narrated Abu Huraira (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ), the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said : Religion is easy and whoever overburdens himself in his religion will not be able to continue in that way.  So you should not be zealots, but try to be as sound as possible (in your deeds), and receive the good tidings that you will be rewarded.  Gain strength by worshiping in the mornings, afternoons, and (Tahajjud) during the last hours of nights.

حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ خَالِدٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ، عَنِ الْبَرَاءِ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم كَانَ أَوَّلَ مَا قَدِمَ الْمَدِينَةَ نَزَلَ عَلَى أَجْدَادِهِ ـ أَوْ قَالَ أَخْوَالِهِ ـ مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ، وَأَنَّهُ صَلَّى قِبَلَ بَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ سِتَّةَ عَشَرَ شَهْرًا، أَوْ سَبْعَةَ عَشَرَ شَهْرًا، وَكَانَ يُعْجِبُهُ أَنْ تَكُونَ قِبْلَتُهُ قِبَلَ الْبَيْتِ، وَأَنَّهُ صَلَّى أَوَّلَ صَلاَةٍ صَلاَّهَا صَلاَةَ الْعَصْرِ، وَصَلَّى مَعَهُ قَوْمٌ، فَخَرَجَ رَجُلٌ مِمَّنْ صَلَّى مَعَهُ، فَمَرَّ عَلَى أَهْلِ مَسْجِدٍ، وَهُمْ رَاكِعُونَ فَقَالَ أَشْهَدُ بِاللَّهِ لَقَدْ صَلَّيْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قِبَلَ مَكَّةَ، فَدَارُوا كَمَا هُمْ قِبَلَ الْبَيْتِ، وَكَانَتِ الْيَهُودُ قَدْ أَعْجَبَهُمْ إِذْ كَانَ يُصَلِّي قِبَلَ بَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ، وَأَهْلُ الْكِتَابِ، فَلَمَّا وَلَّى وَجْهَهُ قِبَلَ الْبَيْتِ أَنْكَرُوا ذَلِكَ‏.‏ قَالَ زُهَيْرٌ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ عَنِ الْبَرَاءِ فِي حَدِيثِهِ هَذَا أَنَّهُ مَاتَ عَلَى الْقِبْلَةِ قَبْلَ أَنْ تُحَوَّلَ رِجَالٌ وَقُتِلُوا، فَلَمْ نَدْرِ مَا نَقُولُ فِيهِمْ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى ‏{‏وَمَا كَانَ اللَّهُ لِيُضِيعَ إِيمَانَكُمْ‏}

Narrated Al-Bara' bin Azib (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ), when the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) came to Medina, he stayed first with his grandfathers or maternal uncles from Ansar. He offered his prayers facing Baitul-Maqdis (Jerusalem) for sixteen or seventeen months, but he wished that he could pray facing the Ka'ba (at Makka). The first prayer which he offered facing the Ka'ba was the 'Asr prayer' in the company of some people. Then one of those who had offered that prayer with him came out and passed by some people in a mosque who were bowing during their prayers (facing Jerusalem). He said addressing them, "By Allah, I testify that I have prayed with Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) facing Makka (Ka'ba).' Hearing that, those people changed their direction towards the Ka'ba immediately. Jews and the people of the scriptures used to be pleased to see the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) facing Jerusalem in prayers but when he changed his direction towards the Ka'ba, during the prayers, they disapproved it.

Al-Bara' (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) added, "Before we changed our direction towards the Ka'ba (Makka) in prayers, some Muslims had died or had been killed and we did not know what to say about them (regarding their prayers.) [And Allah would never make your Iman (prayers) to be lost.]  (Al-Baqara - 143).

Sahih al-Bukhari Vol 1, Bk 2, Hadith # 034

Narrated Abu Sa'id Al Khudri (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ), Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said, "If a person embraces Islam sincerely, then Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) shall forgive all his past sins, and after that starts the settlement of account.  The reward of his good deeds will be ten times to seven hundred times for each good deed and one evil deed will be recorded, as it is, unless Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) forgives it."

Narrated Abu Huraira (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ), Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said : 'If any one of you improves (hold on fast to) his Islamic religion then his good deeds will be rewarded ten times to seven hundred times for each good deed and a bad deed will be recorded, as it is."

CHAPTER (33)

Iman increases and decreases.

And the statement of Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) - 'We increased them in guidance' (Al-Kahaf-13).  'And the believers may increase in Iman' (Al-Muddaththir-31). And Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) said, 'This day I have perfected your religion for you' ( Al-Ma'ida-3). If someone leaves a part of the perfection of Religion, then his religion is incomplete.

I replied, "She is so and so," and told him about her (excessive) praying. He said disapprovingly, 'Do (good) deeds which are within your capacity as Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) does not get tired (of giving rewards) but (surely) you will get tired, and the best deed  in the sight of Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) is that which is done regularly.'

Hadhrat Umar (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) asked, 'which is that verse?' [This day I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favor upon you, And have chosen for you Islam as your religion.]. (Al-Maaida - 3).  Hadhrat Umar (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) replied, 'no doubt, we know when and where this verse was revealed to the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم). It was Friday and the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) was standing at Arafat (9th Dhul Hijja, 10 AH  - March  6, 632 AD).

Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said, 'You have to offer prayers perfectly five times in a day and night'.  The man asked, "Is there any more (praying)?" Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) replied, "No, but if you want to offer the Nawafil prayers (you can)." Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) further said to him: "You have to observe fasts during the month of Ramadan." The man asked, "Is there any more fasting?"

Narrated Abu Huraira (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ),  one day while the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) was sitting in the company of some people, Jibreel (عليه السلام) came (in the guise of a human being) and asked, "What is Iman?" Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) replied, 'Iman is to believe in Allah, His angels, (the) meeting with Him, His Apostles, and to believe in Resurrection." Then he further asked, "What is Islam?" Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) replied, "To pray Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) alone and none else, to offer prayers perfectly, to pay Zakat, and to observe fasts during the month of Ramadan."  Then he further asked, "What is Ihsan?" Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) replied, "To pray Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) as if you see Him, and if you cannot achieve this state of devotion then you must consider that He is looking at you." Then he further asked, "When will the Hour be established?" Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) replied, "The one who is answering  has no better knowledge than the one who is questioning. But I will inform you about its portents. (i) When a slave (lady) gives birth to her master. (ii) When the shepherds of black camels start boasting and competing with others in the construction of higher buildings. And the Hour is one of five things which nobody knows except Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ).

The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) then recited (Quranic verse - إِنَّ اللَّهَ عِندَهُ عِلْمُ السَّاعَةِ [Verily, with Allah has the knowledge of the Hour.] (Luqman- 34). Then that person (Jibreel عليه السلام) left and the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) asked his companions to call him back, but they could not see him. Then the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said, "That was Jibreel (عليه السلام) who came to teach the people their religion." Abu Abdullah said : He (the Prophet ﷺ) considered all that as part of Iman.

CHAPTER (38)

Sahih al-Bukhari Vol 1, Bk 2, Hadith # 044

Narrated Abdullah bin Abbas (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ),  I was informed by Abu Sufyan (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) that Heraclius said to him, "I asked you whether they (followers of Muhammad ﷺ) were increasing or decreasing. You replied that they were increasing. And in fact, this is the way of true Faith till it is complete in all respects. I further asked you whether there was anybody, who, after embracing his (the Prophet's ﷺ) religion  became displeased and discarded it. You replied in the negative, and in fact, this is (a sign of) true faith. When its delight enters the heart and mixes with them completely, nobody can be displeased with it."

Narrated An-Nu'man bin Bashir (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ), I heard Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) saying : 'Both allowed (Halal) and forbidden (Haram) things are evident, but in between them, there are doubtful things, and most of the people have no knowledge about them. So whoever saves himself from these doubtful things, saves his religion and his honor. And whoever indulges in these doubtful things is like a shepherd who grazes (his animals) near the private pasture (حِمًى) of someone else and at any moment he is liable to get in it. Beware! Every king has a Hima (حِمًى) and the Muharimah (مَحَارِمُهُ) of Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) on Earth are the things that have been forbidden by Him.  Beware, there is a piece of flesh in the body, if it becomes good the whole body becomes good,  but if it gets spoiled the whole body gets spoiled,  and that is the heart.

Narrated Abu Jamra (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ),  I used to sit with Ibn Abbas (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) and he made me sit in his sitting place and requested me to stay with him in order that he might give me a share from his property.  So I stayed with him for two months. Once he told (me) that when the delegation of the tribe of Abdul Qais came to the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم), he (the Prophet ﷺ) asked them, "Who are the people (who are you)? (Or) who are the delegates?" They replied, "We are from the tribe of Rabi'a."  Then the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said to them, "Welcome! O people (or O'delegation of Abdul Qais)! Neither will you have disgrace nor will you regret." They said, "O Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم)! We cannot come to you except in the sacred month and there is the infidel tribe of Mudar intervening between you and us. So please order us to do something good (religious deeds) so that we may inform our people whom we have left behind (at home), and that we may enter Paradise (by acting on them)." Then they asked about drinks (what is legal and what is illegal). The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) ordered them to do four things and forbade them from four things. He ordered them to believe in Allah alone and asked them, "do you know what is meant by believing in Allah alone?" They replied, "Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) and His Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) know better." Thereupon the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said, "It means to testify that there is no god but Allah and Muhammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) is Allah's Apostle.  (Then) to establish Salah,  pay the Zakat, observe fast during the month of Ramadan, and pay Khumus (one fifth of the booty in Allah's Cause).

He forbade them four things, namely, Hantam, Dubba,' Naqir Ann Muzaffat or Muqaiyar; (These were the names of pots in which Alcoholic drinks were prepared in their tribe. The Prophet ﷺ wanted them to stop that practice). He (the Prophet ﷺ) further said, 'memorize these (instructions) and convey them to the people whom you have left behind.'

CHAPTER (42)

بَابُ قَوْلِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : الدِّينُ النَّصِيحَةُ لِلَّهِ وَلِرَسُولِهِ وَلأَئِمَّةِ الْمُسْلِمِينَ وَعَامَّتِهِمْ  وَقَوْلِهِ تَعَالَى : {إِذَا نَصَحُوا لِلَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ}
The statement of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) : Religion is,   to be sincere and true to Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ), to His Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم), to the Muslim rulers, and to all Muslims.
And the statement of Allah - إِذَا نَصَحُوا لِلَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ  [ So long as they are sincere to Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) and His Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم). ]

Sahih al-Bukhari Vol 1, Bk 2, Hadith # 047

Narrated Hadhrat Umar bin Al-Khattab (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said : "The reward of deeds depends upon the intention and every person will get the reward according to what he has intended. So whoever emigrated for Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) and His Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم), then his emigration was for Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) and His Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم). And whoever emigrated for worldly benefits or for a woman to marry, his emigration was for what he emigrated for.'

Sahih al-Bukhari Vol 1, Bk 2, Hadith # 048

Narrated Abu Mas'ud (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ), the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said, "If a man spends on his family sincerely for Allah's (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) sake, then it is a (kind of) alms-giving.

Narrated Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said, "You will be rewarded for whatever you spend for Allah's (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) sake even if it were a morsel which you put in your wife's mouth."

Sahih al-Bukhari Vol 1, Bk 2, Hadith # 050

Narrated Jarir bin Abdullah (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ), I gave the pledge of allegiance to Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) for (i) establishing Salah, (ii) paying Zakat, and (iii) to be sincere and true to every Muslim.

Narrated Ziyad bin Ilaqa (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ), I heard Jarir bin Abdullah (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) on the day when Al-Mughira bin Shu'ba (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) died, he (Jarirؓ ) got up (on the pulpit) and thanked and praised Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) and said, "Be afraid of Allah alone Who has none along with Him to be worshiped. (You should) be calm and quiet till the (new) chief (Governor) comes to you and he will come to you soon. Ask Allah's (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) forgiveness for your (late) chief (Governor) because he himself loved to forgive others."  Jarir (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) added, I had gone to the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) and said, 'I give my pledge of allegiance to you for Islam.' The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) conditioned (my pledge) for me to be sincere and true to every Muslim so I gave my pledge to him for this. By the Lord of this mosque! I am sincere and true to you (Muslims). Then Jarir (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) asked for Allah's (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) forgiveness and came down (from the pulpit).
