CHAPTER (1)

What has been related about the virtue of Witr

Jami at-Tirmidhi, Vol 1,  Bk 3,  Hadith # 1

Kharijab bin Hudhafah (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) narrated that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) came out to us and  said : 'Indeed Allah has assisted you with a Salah that is better for you than red camels : Al-Witr which Allah made for you between the Isha till the start of Fajr.'

There are narrations on this topic from Abu Huraira, Abdullah bin Amr, Buraidah and Abu Basra al-Gifari, the companion of the Prophet Imam Tirmidhi said the Hadith of Kharijia bin Hudhafa (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) is a Gharib Hadith as we do not know of it except from the narration of Yazid bin Abi Habib.  One of the Muhad-dithin (narrators of Ahadith ) made a mistake regarding this Hadith.  He said : (from) Abdullah bin Rashid Az-Zurqi and this is wrong.  (And Abu Basra Al-Ghifari's (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) name is Humail bin Basra and some of them call him Jamil bin Basra that is not correct.  Abu Basrah Al-Ghifari (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) is another man who reports from Abu Dharr (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) and he is a nephew of Abu Dharr -  رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ)

Ali (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) said : 'Al-Witr is not incumbent like your obligatory prayers, but it is a Sunnah of the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) who said : 'Indeed Allah is Witr (One), and He loves Witr, so perform Witr O' people of the Quran.'

There are narrations on this topic from Ibn Umar, Ibn Masud and Ibn Abbas Imam Tirmidhi said the Hadith of Ali (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) is a Hasan Hadith.

Sufyan Ath-Thawri and others reported from Abu Ishaq, from Asim bin Damrah, that Ali (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) said : 'Witr is not incumbent like the status of the obligatory prayers, but it is a Sunnah which the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) practiced.

(Imam Tirmidhi said) that was narrated to us by Bundar (who said) : Abdur Rahman bin Mahdi narrated to us from Sufyan (from Abu Ishaq).  This is more correct than the narration of Abu Bakr bin Ayyash (a narrator in Hadith # 2 above).  Mansur bin Al-Mutamir reported a narration from Abu Ishaq which is similar to that of Abu Bakr bi Ayyash.

CHAPTER (3)

What has been related about 'it is disliked to sleep before Witr

Jami at-Tirmidhi, Vol 1,  Bk 3,  Hadith # 4

Abu Huraira (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) narrated that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) ordered him to pray Witr before sleeping.

Eisa bin Abi Azzah said : Ash-Shabi would pray Witr during the first part of the night and then sleep (both of them are narrators of this Hadith).  Imam Tirmidhi said the Hadith of Abu Huraira (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) is a Hasan Gharib Hadith from this route.  There is something on this topic from Abu Dharr Abu Thawr Al-Azadi's name is Habib bin Abi Mulaikah.  There are those among the people of knowledge among the companions of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) and those after them who prefer that a man not sleep until he has prayed witr.  It has been related that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said : Whoever among you fears that he will not awaken at the end of the night, then let him pray Witr at its beginning.  And whoever among you expects to arise at the end of the night, then let him perform Witr at the end of the night.  Indeed the recitation of Quran at the end of the night is attended (by the angels) and it is more virtuous.  That was narrated to us by Hannad (who said) : Abu Muawiya narrated that to us from Al-Amash from Abu Sufyan from Jabir (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) from the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم)

CHAPTER (4)

What has been related about Witr during the beginning of the night and its end

Jami at-Tirmidhi, Vol 1,  Bk 3,  Hadith # 5

Masruq narrated that he asked Ummul Momineen Aisha (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہا) about the Witr of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم). She said : He would pray Witr at anytime during the night, in the beginning, middle, or towards the end. During the last days before his death, he used to pray Witr before the approach of Sahar.

Imam Tirmidhi said, Abu Hasin's name is Uthman bin Asim al-Asadi.  He said there are narrations on this topic from Ali, Jabir, Abu Masud al-Ansari and Abu Qatadah He said, the Hadith of Ummul Momineen Aisha (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہا) is Hasan Sahih Hadith.  This is the view chosen by some of the people of knowledge that Witr is at the end of the night.

CHAPTER (5)

What has been related about 7 raka for Witr

Jami at-Tirmidhi, Vol 1,  Bk 3,  Hadith # 6

Ummul Momineen Umm Salamah (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہا) narrated that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) would pray Witr with thirteen (Rak'a). When he was older and became weak he prayed Witr with seven.

There is a narration on this topic from Ummul Momineen Aisha Imam Tirmidhi said, the Hadith of Ummul Momineen Umm Salamah (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہا) is  a Hasan Hadith.  It has been reported that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) would pray Witr with thirteen, with eleven, with nine, with seven, with five, with three and with one. Regarding the meaning of what has been reported about the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) praying Witr with thriteen, Ishaq bin Ibrahim said, it only means that he would pray thirteen raka during the night including Witr.  So the night prayer (Tahajjud) was included in Witr.  He related a Hadith about that from Ummul Momineen Aisha He also argued using a report that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said : pray Witr O'people of the Quran.  He said, he only meant the night prayer (Tahajjud) by that as if to say that the night prayer (Tahajjud) is only to be performed by those who know the Quran.

CHAPTER (6)

What has been related about 5 raka for Witr

Jami at-Tirmidhi, Vol 1,  Bk 3,  Hadith # 7

Ummul Momineen Aishah (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہا) narrated that the night prayer (Tahajjud) of the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) was thirteen Rak'a, five of which were his Witr, not sitting in any of them except at the end of them. When the Mu'adh-dhin called the Adhan (for Fajr) he would stand to perform two light (Rak'a).

Imam Tirmidhi said the Hadith of Ummul Momineen Aisha (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہا) is a Hasan Sahih Hadith.  There is a narration about this from Abu Ayyub (). Some of the people of knowledge, among the companions of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) and others held the view that Witr was five (rak'a).  They said that one has to sit (for Tashah-hud) only in the last raka.  Imam Tirmidhi said, he asked Abu Mas'ab Al-Madani about this Hadith that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) would perform Witr with nine and seven asking how would one perform Witr with nine and seven?  He said, the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) would pray two, then two and say Taslim then make it Witr with one.

CHAPTER (7)

What has been related about 3 raka for Witr

Jami at-Tirmidhi, Vol 1,  Bk 3,  Hadith # 8

Ali (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) narrated that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) would pray  Witr with three, reciting nine Surah from the Mufassal in them, reciting three Surah in each Rak'a with - ‏قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ ‏  [Say, Allah is One]  at the end of them.

There are narrations on this topic from Imran bin Husain, Ummul Momineen Aisha, Ibn Abbas, Abu Ayyub and Abdur Rahman bin Abza from Ubayy bin Ka'b There is also a narration from Abdur Rahman bin Abza () from the Prophet This is how some of them narrated it without mentioning Ubayy (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) in it.  Some of them mentioned it from Abdur Rahman bin Abza from Ubayy bin Ka'b Imam Tirmidhi said, there are those among the people of knowledge among the companions of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) and others who held this view that a man should pray three for Al-Witr.  Sufyan said, if one wishes to, he prays Witr with five, if he wishes he prays Witr with three and if he wishes, he prays Witr with one Raka.  Sufyan said, what is recommended is that he performs Witr with three raka.  This is the view of Ibn Al-Mubarak and the people of Kufa.

Jami at-Tirmidhi, Vol 1,  Bk 3,  Hadith # 9

Mohammad bin Sirin said, they would pray Witr with five, with three and with one raka and they considered all of that to be good.

CHAPTER (8)

What has been related about one raka for Witr

Jami at-Tirmidhi, Vol 1,  Bk 3,  Hadith # 10

Anas bin Sirin narrated that he asked Ibn Umar (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) about the length of the two Rak'a (before) Al-Fajr.   He said the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) would pray two and two during the night, and he would pray Witr with one Rak'a. And he would pray two Rak'ah while he was hearing the Adhan (meaning that they were light).

There are narrations on this topic from Ummul Momineen Aisha, Jabir, Al-Fadl bin Abas, Abu Ayyub and Ibn Abbas Imam Tirmidhi said the Hadith of Ibn Umar (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) is a Hasan Sahih Hadith.  This is acted upon according to some of the people of knowledge among the companions of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) and the Tabi'een.  They thought that a man should separate between rak'a and a third performing Witr with one raka.  This is the view of Malik, Ash-Shafii, Ahmad and Ishaq.

CHAPTER (9)

What has been related about what is recited during Witr

Jami at-Tirmidhi, Vol 1,  Bk 3,  Hadith # 11

Ibn Abbas (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) narrated :  Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) would recite during Witr -  ‏سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الأَعْلَى [Glorify the Name of your Lord the Most High]   and ‏قُلْ يَا أَيُّهَا الْكَافِرُونَ [ Say,  O you disbelievers ]   and  قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ  [Say,  Allah is One ]   in each Rak'a.

There are narrations on this topic from Ali, Ummul Momineen Aisha, Abdur Rahman bin Abza from Ubayy bin Ka'b (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہم), (and it has been reported from Abdur Rahman bin Abza) from the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم). Imam Tirmidhi said it has been reported that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) would recite Al-Mu'awwidhatain (two Suras); and recite - قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ  [Say,  Allah is One ] in the third raka.  What is preferred by most of the people of knowledge among the companions of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) and those after them is to recite‏سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الأَعْلَى [Glorify the Name of your Lord the Most High]   and ‏قُلْ يَا أَيُّهَا الْكَافِرُونَ [ Say,  O you disbelievers ]   and  قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ  [Say,  Allah is One ], reciting one of these Suras in each rak'a.

Jami at-Tirmidhi, Vol 1,  Bk 3,  Hadith # 12

Abdul-Aziz bin Juraij narrated that he asked Ummul Momineen Aisha (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہا) about the recitations of the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) during Witr.  She said : 'In the first he would recite ‏سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الأَعْلَى [ Glorify the Name of your Lord the Most High], in the second - ‏قُلْ يَا أَيُّهَا الْكَافِرُونَ  [ Say,  O you disbelievers ] and in the third -   قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ  [Say,  Allah is One ]  and Al-Mu'awwidhatain (last two Suras of the Quran).

Imam Tirmidhi said this Hadith is Hasan Gharib.  He said Abu Abdul Aziz is the son of Ibn Juraij and the companion of Ata.  And Ibn Juraij's name is Abdul Malik bin Abdul Aziz bin Juraij.  This Hadith has been reported by Yahya bin Sa'id Al-Ansari from Amrah from Ummul Momineen Aisha (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہا) from the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم).

CHAPTER (10)

What has been related about the Qunut in Witr

Jami at-Tirmidhi, Vol 1,  Bk 3,  Hadith # 13

Imam Hasan bin Ali (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) narrated that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) taught him some phrases to say during Witr -  اللَّهُمَّ اهْدِنِي فِيمَنْ هَدَيْتَ وَعَافِنِي فِيمَنْ عَافَيْتَ وَتَوَلَّنِي فِيمَنْ تَوَلَّيْتَ وَبَارِكْ لِي فِيمَا أَعْطَيْتَ وَقِنِي شَرَّ مَا قَضَيْتَ فَإِنَّكَ تَقْضِي وَلاَ يُقْضَى عَلَيْكَ وَإِنَّهُ لاَ يَذِلُّ مَنْ وَالَيْتَ تَبَارَكْتَ رَبَّنَا وَتَعَالَيْتَ   [ O Allah guide me among those You have guided, pardon me among those You have pardoned, befriend me among those You have befriended, bless me in what You have granted, and save me from the evil that You decreed. Indeed You decree, and none can pass decree, and none can pass decree upon You, indeed he is not humiliated whom You have befriended, blessed are You our Lord and Exalted.].

Imam Tirmidhi said this Hadith is Hasan as we do not know of it except from this route in the narration of Abu Al-Hawra As-Sadi and his name is Rabia bin Shaiban.  There is a narration on this topic from Ali We do not know anything better than this about the Qunut in Witr from the Prophet The people of knowledge differ over the Qunut in Witr. Ibn Masud (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) held the view that the Qunut was recited in Witr throughout the year and he preferred that the Qunut be before the bowing (Ruku).  This is the saying of some of the people of knowledge.  It is the view of Sufyan Ath-Thawri, Ibn Al-Mubarak, Ishaq, and the people of Kufa.  It has been related that Ali bin Abi Talib (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) would not recite Qunut except in the latter half of Ramadhan after bowing.  Some of the people of knowledge followed this.  It is the view of Ash-Shafii and Ahmad.

CHAPTER (11)

What has been related about a man who sleeps past Witr or forgets it

Jami at-Tirmidhi, Vol 1,  Bk 3,  Hadith # 14

Abu Sa'eed Al-Khudri (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) narrated that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said : 'Whoever sleeps past Witr or forgets it, then let him pray it when he remembers it or when he awakens.'

Jami at-Tirmidhi, Vol 1,  Bk 3,  Hadith # 15

Zaid bin Aslam narrated from his father that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said : 'Whoever sleeps past Witr,  let him pray it in the morning.

Imam Tirmidhi said this is more correct than the narration before it (# 14 above).  Imam Tirmidhi said he heard Abu Dawood As-Sijzi that is Sulaiman bin Al-Ash'at saying that he asked Ahmad bin Hanbal about Abdur Rahman bin Zaid bin Aslam.  He said, his brother Abdullah is tolerable.  He said, I heard Muhammad mentioning that Ali bin Abdullah said : Abdur Rahman bin Zaid bin Aslam was weak and he said : Abdullah bin Zaid bin Aslam is trustworthy.  Some of the people of Kufa followed this Hadith.  They say that a man prays Witr when he remembers even if it was after the sun had risen.  This is the view of Sufyan Ath-Thawri.

CHAPTER (12)

What has been related about preceding the morning with Witr

Jami at-Tirmidhi, Vol 1,  Bk 3,  Hadith # 16

Ibn Umar (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) narrated that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said : 'Precede the morning with Al-Witr.'

Imam Tirmidhi said this Hadith is Hasan Sahih.

Jami at-Tirmidhi, Vol 1,  Bk 3,  Hadith # 17

Abu Sa'eed Al-Khudri (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) narrated that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said : 'Pray Witr before the morning comes upon you.'

Jami at-Tirmidhi, Vol 1,  Bk 3,  Hadith # 18

Ibn Umar (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) narrated that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said : 'When Fajr begins, every Salah of the night and Witr have gone, so pray Witr before Fajr begins.'

Imam Tirmidhi said Sulaiman bin Musa is along with the wording.  It has been reported that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said 'there is no Witr after the Subh prayer'.  This is the saying of more than one of the people of knowledge.  It is the view of Ash-Shafii, Ahmad and Ishaq.  They did not think that Witr could be prayed after the Fajr prayer.

CHAPTER (13)

What has been related about there are no two witr in one night

Jami at-Tirmidhi, Vol 1,  Bk 3,  Hadith # 19

Qais bin Talq bin Ali narrated that his father said he heard the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) saying : There are no two Witr in one night.'

Imam Tirmidhi said this Hadith is Hasan Gharib.  The people of knowledge differ over the one who prays Witr during the beginning of the night and then he stands (in prayer) in its latter part.  Some of the people of knowledge among the companions of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) and those after them thought that the Witr is incomplete and invalid unless a rak'a is connected to it, reciting whatever he wants, then he prays witr at the end of his prayer because there are no two Witr in the night.  This was attributed to Ishaq. Some of the people of knowledge among the companions of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) and others said that when one prays Witr during the first part of the night, then sleeps, then he gets up in the latter part, he prays what he wants to.  It does not nullify his Witr so he leaves his Witr as it is.  This is the saying of Sufyan Ath Thawri, Malik bin Anas, Ahmad, Ibn al-Mubarak, Ash-Shafii and the people of Kufa.  This is more correct because more than one narration reports that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) did offer prayers after Witr.

Jami at-Tirmidhi, Vol 1,  Bk 3,  Hadith # 20

Ummul Momineen Umm Salamah (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہا) narrated that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) would pray two Rak'a after Witr.

Imam Tirmidhi said similar to this Hadith had been reported by Abu Umamah, Ummul Momineen Aisha and more than one from companions from the Prophet

What has been related about performing Witr on the Mount

Jami at-Tirmidhi, Vol 1,  Bk 3,  Hadith # 21

Sa'eed bin Yasar narrated that he was with Ibn Umar (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) on a journey and  fell behind him. Ibn Umar (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) asked : 'Where were you?' 'I said I prayed Witr.' He said : 'Is there not a good exampled for you in the Apostle of Allah I saw the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) Witr on his mount.'

There are narrations on this topic from Ibn Abbas Ibn Umar Imam Tirmidhi said, the Hadith of Ibn Umar Ibn Umar (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) is a Hasan Sahih Hadith.  Some of the people of knowledge among the companions of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) and others, followed this.  They held the view that a man could pray Witr on his mount.  This was the view of Ash-Shafii, Ahmad and Ishaq.  Some of the people of knowledge said that a man is not to perform Witr on his mount, when he wants to perform Witr he dismounts and prays it on the ground.  This is the saying of some of the people of Kufa.

CHAPTER (15)

What has been related about Ad-Dhuha prayer

Jami at-Tirmidhi, Vol 1,  Bk 3,  Hadith # 22

Anas bin Malik Ibn Umar (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) narrated that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said : 'Whoever prays twelve Rak'a of Ad-Duha (Chaasht), Allah will build a castle made of gold for him in Paradise.'

There are narrations on this topic from Umm Hani, Abu Huraira, Nu'aim bin Hammar, Abu Dharr, Ummul Momineen Aisha, Abu Umama, Utbah bin Abdus Sulami ibn Awfa, Abu Sa'id, Zaid bin Arqam and ibn Abbas Imam Tirmidhi said the Hadith of Anas Ibn Umar (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) is a Gharib Hadith we do not know of it except from this route.

Jami at-Tirmidhi, Vol 1,  Bk 3,  Hadith # 23

Abdur Rahman bin Abi Laila narrated that no one informed that they saw the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) praying Ad-Duha (Chaasht) except Umm Hani (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہا). She narrated that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) entered her house on the Day of the Conquest of Makkah. He performed Ghusl and performed eight voluntary Rak'a such that she had not ever seen him pray any Salah lighter than them, but that he completed the bowing and prostrations.'

Imam Tirmidhi said this Hadith is Hasan Sahih.  It is as if Ahmad thought that the most correct thing about this topic was the Hadith of Umm Hani They differ over Nu'aim as some of them call him Nu'aim bin Khammar while others Ibn Hammar; and he is called Ibn Habbar and Ibn Hammam.  Ibn Hammar is correct.  Abu Nu'aim was confused in this, he said : Ibn Khamar then he left that and said, Nuaim from the Prophet Imam Tirmidhi said, Abdu bin Humaid informed me of that from Abu Nu'aim.

Jami at-Tirmidhi, Vol 1,  Bk 3,  Hadith # 24

Jubair (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) narrated from Abu Ad-Darda (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ), or Abu Dharr (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ), that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) narrated that Allah, Blessed and Most High said : 'Son of Adam: Pray four Rak'a for Me in the beginning of the day it will suffice you for the latter part of it.'

Imam Tirmidhi said this Hadith is Hasan Gharib.

Abu Huraira Ibn Umar (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) narrated that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said : 'Whoever continuously performs the two Rak'a of Ad-Duha (Chaasht) his sins will be forgiven, even if they be like the foam of the sea.'

Imam Tirmidhi said Waki, An-Nadr bin Shumail and more than one of the Aimmah reported this Hadith from Nahhas bin Qahm and we do not know of it except from his narration.

Jami at-Tirmidhi, Vol 1,  Bk 3,  Hadith # 26

Abu Sa'eed Al-Khudri Ibn Umar (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) narrated that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) would pray Ad-Duha (Chaasht) until we would say : 'He will not leave it.' And he would leave it until we would say : 'He will not pray it.'

Imam Tirmidhi said this Hadith is Hasan Gharib.

What has been related about Salah at the time of Az-Zawal

Jami at-Tirmidhi, Vol 1,  Bk 3,  Hadith # 27

Abdullah bin As-Sa'ib Ibn Umar (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) narrated that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) would pray four (Rak'a) at the Zawal of the sun (when sun has passed its meridian) before Zuhr. He said : 'It is an hour in which the gates of the heavens are opened, and I love that a righteous deed should be raised up for me in it.'

There are narrations on this topic from Ali and Abu Ayyub Imam Tirmidhi said the Hadith of Abdullah bin As-Sa'ib (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) is a Hasan Gharib Hadith.  It has been reported that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) would pray four Raka after the Zawal (when sun has passed its meridian), not saying the Taslim except in the last of them.

Abdullah bin Abi Awfa (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) narrated that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said : 'Whoever has a need from Allah, or from one of the sons of Adam, then let him do Wudu', doing it well, then pray two Rak`a, then praise Allah and recite durood upon the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم). Then let him say -  لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ الْحَلِيمُ الْكَرِيمُ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ أَسْأَلُكَ مُوجِبَاتِ رَحْمَتِكَ وَعَزَائِمَ مَغْفِرَتِكَ وَالْغَنِيمَةَ مِنْ كُلِّ بِرٍّ وَالسَّلاَمَةَ مِنْ كُلِّ إِثْمٍ لاَ تَدَعْ لِي ذَنْبًا إِلاَّ غَفَرْتَهُ وَلاَ هَمًّا إِلاَّ فَرَّجْتَهُ وَلاَ حَاجَةً هِيَ لَكَ رِضًا إِلاَّ قَضَيْتَهَا يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ  [ There is no god but Allah, the Forbearing), the Generous. Glorious is Allah, Lord of the Magnificent Throne. All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds. I ask You for that which warrants Your mercy, and that which will determine Your forgiveness, and the spoils (fruits) of every righteous deed, and safety from every sin; do not leave a sin for me without forgiving it, nor a worry without relieving it. Or a need that pleases you without granting it. O Most Merciful of those who have mercy].

Imam Tirmidhi said this Hadith is Gharib as there is criticism regarding its chain.  Faid bin Abdur Rahman is weak in Hadith and Faid is Abu Al-Warqa.

Jabir bin Abdullah (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) narrated that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) would teach us Al-Isthikhara for all of our affairs just as he would teach us a Surah of the Qur'an, saying : 'When one of you is worried about a matter, then let him perform two Rak'a other than the obligatory (prayer), then let him say -  اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْتَخِيرُكَ بِعِلْمِكَ وَأَسْتَقْدِرُكَ بِقُدْرَتِكَ وَأَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ الْعَظِيمِ فَإِنَّكَ تَقْدِرُ وَلاَ أَقْدِرُ وَتَعْلَمُ وَلاَ أَعْلَمُ وَأَنْتَ عَلاَّمُ الْغُيُوبِ اللَّهُمَّ إِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنَّ هَذَا الأَمْرَ خَيْرٌ لِي فِي دِينِي وَمَعِيشَتِي وَعَاقِبَةِ أَمْرِي أَوْ قَالَ فِي عَاجِلِ أَمْرِي وَآجِلِهِ فَيَسِّرْهُ لِي ثُمَّ بَارِكْ لِي فِيهِ وَإِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ أَنَّ هَذَا الأَمْرَ شَرٌّ لِي فِي دِينِي وَمَعِيشَتِي وَعَاقِبَةِ أَمْرِي أَوْ قَالَ فِي عَاجِلِ أَمْرِي وَآجِلِهِ فَاصْرِفْهُ عَنِّي وَاصْرِفْنِي عَنْهُ وَاقْدُرْ لِيَ الْخَيْرَ حَيْثُ كَانَ ثُمَّ أَرْضِنِي بِهِ   [ O Allah! There are narrations on this topic from Abdullah bin Masud and Abu Ayyub Imam Tirmidhi said the Hadith of Jabir is Hasan Sahih Gharib Hadith as we do not know of it except as a narration of Abdur Rahman bin Abi Al-Mawali and he is a Shaikh from Madina who is trustworthy.  Sufyan narrates Ahadith from him and more than one of the Aimmah reported from Abdur Rahman (and he is Abdur Rahman bin Zaid bin Abi Al-Mawali.

Anas bin Malik (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) narrated that Umm Sulaim (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہا) came to the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) and said : 'Teach me some words that I can say in my Salat'.  So he said : 'Mention Allah's Greatness (saying Allahu Akbar) ten times, mention Allah's Glory (saying Subhan Allah) ten times, and mention Allah's praise (saying Al-Hamdulilah) ten times. Then ask as you like, (for which) He says : 'Yes. Yes.'

Imam Tirmidhi said the Hadith of Anas (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) is a Hasan Gharib Hadith.  There are narrations on this topic from Ibn Abbas, Abdullah bin Amr, Al-Fadl bin Abbas and Abu Rafi Other Ahadith have been related from the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) about Salat at-Tasbih but there are not many things about it that are correct.  Ibn Al-Mubarak and more than one of the people of knowledge have reported about Salat at-Tasbih and the virtues of it.  Ahmad bin Abdah al-Amuli narrated to us : Abu Wahd narrated to us : I asked Abdullah bin Al-Mubarak about the Salah that has the Tasbih in it.  He said, one says the Takbir then says -  سُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ وَتَبَارَكَ اسْمُكَ وَتَعَالَى جَدُّكَ وَلاَ إِلَهَ غَيْرُكَ  [ Glorious You are O Allah, and with Your praise and blessed is Your Name, and exalted is Your majesty and there is non worthy of worship other than You ] then fifteen times he says -  سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ وَلاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ  [Glorious is Allah and all praise is due to Allah and there is god but Allah and Allah is Greatest].  Then he says the Tawwudh (أعوذ بالله من الشيطان الرجيم) and recites (Tasmia) - بِسمِ الله الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ  [ In the name of Allah the Most Compassionate and Most Merciful] And Fatihatil Kitab and Sura.  Then ten times he say says -  سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ وَلاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ  [Glorious is Allah and all praise is due to Allah and there is god but Allah and Allah is Greatest]. Then he bows saying that ten times then he raises his head (from bowing) and says it ten times.  Then he prostrates and says it ten times, then he raises his head and says it ten times.  Then he prostrates the second time and says it ten times.  He prays four raka in this manner so that will be seventy five Tasbih in every raka.  He starts every raka with fifteen tasbih, then he recites then says ten Tasbih.  If he prays during the night, then to me it is recommended to the taslim for every two raka and if he prays during the day, then if he wants he says the taslim and if he does not want to, he does not say the taslim.   Ahmad bin Abdah said : Wahb bin Zam'ah narrated to us, he said : Abdul Aziz informed me and he is Ibn Abi Rizmah.  He said : I said to Abdullah bin Al-Mubarak : If one becomes forgetful in it, does he say the Tasbih in the prostrations of As-Sahw ten times in each?  He said no.  There are only three hundred Tasbih in it.

Jami at-Tirmidhi, Vol 1,  Bk 3,  Hadith # 31

Abu Rafi (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) narrated that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said to Al-Abbas (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) : "O uncle! Shall I not give to you, shall I not present to you, shall I not benefit you?' He said : "Of course, O Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم). He said : "O uncle! Pray four Rak'a, reciting in each Rak'a Fatihatil-Kitab and a Surah. When you are finished your recitation then say - اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ وَسُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ وَلاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ ال [ Allah is Greatest, and all praise is due to Allah, and Glorious is Allah, and there is no god but Allah]  fifteen times before you bow.  Then bow and say it ten times, then raise your head and say it ten times. Then prostrate [the second time] and say it ten times. Then raise your head and say it ten times before standing. That is seventy-five in every Rak'a, which is three-hundred in four Rak'a. If your sins were like a heap of sand then Allah would forgive you.' He said : 'O Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) Who is able to pray that every day?'  He said : "If you can not pray it every day then pray it every Friday, and if you are not able to pray it every Friday then pray it every month.' And he did not stop saying that until he said : 'Then pray it once in a year.

Imam Tirmidhi said this Hadith is Gharib as a narration of Abu Rafi
