CHAPTER (49)

بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي إِسْبَاغِ الْوُضُوءِ

What is related about doing Wudu properly
 
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ سَالِمٍ أَبُو جَهْضَمٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ أَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ بِإِسْبَاغِ الْوُضُوءِ ‏.‏
 
It was narrated that Ibn Abbas (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) said the Apostle of Allah  (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) commanded us to perform ablution properly.'
 
 
It was narrated from Abu Sa'eed Khudri (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) that he heard the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) say : "Shall I not tell you of something by means of which Allah expiates for sins and increases good deeds?' They said : 'Yes, O Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم). He said : 'Perform ablution properly despite difficulties, increasing the number of steps one takes towards the mosque and waiting for the next prayer after prayer.'

It was narrated from Abu Huraira (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) that: The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said : 'Sins are expiated by well-performed ablution despite difficulties, increasing the number of steps one takes towards the mosque, (and waiting for the next prayer after prayer).'
 
 

CHAPTER (50)

بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي تَخْلِيلِ اللِّحْيَةِ

What is related about running the wet fingers through the beard during Wudu

It was narrated that 'Ammar bin Yasir (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) said he saw the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) running his fingers through his beard.

It was narrated from 'Uthman (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) performed ablution and ran his fingers through his beard.

It was narrated that Anas bin Malik (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) said, 'when the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) performed ablution, he ran his fingers through his beard and separated his fingers (to let water run through them) twice.'

It was narrated that Ibn 'Umar (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) said, 'whenever the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) performed ablution, he rubbed the sides of his face then run his fingers through his beard from beneath.'

It was narrated that Abu Ayyub Al-Ansari (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) said, he saw the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) performing ablution and he ran his fingers through his beard.'
 
 

CHAPTER (51)

بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي مَسْحِ الرَّأْسِ

What is related about wiping the Head

Amr bin Yahya narrated that his father said to Abdullah bin Zaid (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) who was the grandfather of Amr bin Yahya : 'Can you show me how the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) used to perform ablution? 'Abdullah bin Zaid (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) said : 'Yes,' So he called for water, poured it over his hands and washed his hands twice. Then he raised his mouth and sniffed water up into his nostrils three times. Then he washed his face three times and his arms up to his elbows twice. Then he wiped his head with his hands, from front to back. He started at the front of his head, then went with them to the nape of his neck, then he brought them back, returning them to the place he started, then he washed his feet.'

It was narrated that 'Uthman bin 'Affan (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) said, he saw the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) performing ablution and he wiped his head once.'

It was narrated from Ali (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) wiped his head once.

It was narrated that Salamah bin Akwa (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) said, he saw the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) performing ablution, and he wiped his head once.'

It was narrated that Ar-Rubai bint Muwawwid bin Afra (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہا) said the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) performed ablution and wiped his head twice.'
 
 

CHAPTER (52)

بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي مَسْحِ الأُذُنَيْنِ

What is related about wiping the ears
 
 
 
Sunan Ibn Majah, Vol 1, Book 1, Hadith # 173
 
 
It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) wiped his ears, putting his forefingers in his ears and wiping the back of them with his thumbs, so he wiped them inside and out.

It was narrated from Rubai' (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہا) that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) performed ablution and wiped his ears inside and out.

It was narrated that Rubai' bint Mu'awwidh bin 'Afra' (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہا) said the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) performed ablution, and he put his fingers in the  inside of his ears.'
 
 
Sunan Ibn Majah, Vol 1, Book 1, Hadith # 176
 
 
It was narrated from Miqdam bin Ma'dikarib (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) performed ablution and he wiped his head and his ears, inside and out.
 
 

CHAPTER (53)

بَابُ الأُذُنَانِ مِنَ الرَّأْسِ

The ears are part of the head
 
 
 
Sunan Ibn Majah, Vol 1, Book 1, Hadith # 177
 
 
It was narrated that Abdullah bin Zaid (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) said : the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said 'the   ears are part of the head.'
 
 
Sunan Ibn Majah, Vol 1, Book 1, Hadith # 178

 
It was narrated from Abu Umamah (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said, 'the ears are part of the head.' He used to wipe his head once, and he used to wipe over the inner corners of the eyes (that are close to the nose).
 
 
Sunan Ibn Majah, Vol 1, Book 1, Hadith # 179

 
It was narrated that Abu Huraira (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) said, the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said : 'The ears are part of the head.'
 
 

CHAPTER (54)

بَابُ تَخْلِيلِ الأَصَابِعِ

Running the fingers of one hand between the fingers of other and and toes
 
 
 
Sunan Ibn Majah, Vol 1, Book 1, Hadith # 180

 
It was narrated that Mustawarid bin Shaddad (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) said, he saw the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) performing ablution, and he ran his little finger between his toes.'
 
There is another chain for this Hadith with similar wording.
 
 
Sunan Ibn Majah, Vol 1, Book 1, Hadith # 181
 
It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) said, the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said : 'When you get up for prayer, perform ablution properly and make the water run between your toes and your fingers.'

'Asim bin Laqit bin Saabirah narrated that his father said, the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said : 'perform ablution properly and let the water run between your fingers.'

Ubaidullah bin Abu Rafi' narrated from his father that, whenever the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) performed ablution, he moved his ring.
 
 

CHAPTER (55)

بَابُ غَسْلِ الْعَرَاقِيبِ

Washing the heels and calcaneal tendon
 
 
 
Sunan Ibn Majah, Vol 1, Book 1, Hadith # 184
 
 
Abdullah bin Amr (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) narrated that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) saw some people performing ablution, and their heels were dry. He said : 'Woe to the heels because of Hell fire, perform ablution properly!'
 
 
Sunan Ibn Majah, Vol 1, Book 1, Hadith # 185

 
Ummul Momineen Aisha (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہا) narrated that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said : 'Woe to the heels because of Hell fire.'
 
 
Sunan Ibn Majah, Vol 1, Book 1, Hadith # 186

 
It was narrated that Abu Salamah said Ummul Momineen Aisha (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہا) saw Abdur Rahman performing ablution, and she said : Perform ablution properly, for I heard the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) say : 'Woe to the Achilles' tendon because of Hell fire.'

It was narrated from Abu Huraira (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said : 'Woe to the heels because of Hell fire.'
 
 
Sunan Ibn Majah, Vol 1, Book 1, Hadith # 188

 
It was narrated that Jabir bin 'Abdullah (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) said he heard the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) say : 'Woe to the Achilles' tendon because of Hell fire.'
 
 
Sunan Ibn Majah, Vol 1, Book 1, Hadith # 189

 
It was narrated from Khalid bin Walid, Yazid bin Abu Sufyan, Shurahbil bin Hasanah and 'Amr bin 'As (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہم) that they all heard the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) say : 'Complete the ablution. Woe to the heels (if they are not washed properly) because of Hell fire.
 
 

CHAPTER (56)

بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي غَسْلِ الْقَدَمَيْنِ

What is related about washing the feet
 
 
 
Sunan Ibn Majah, Vol 1, Book 1, Hadith # 190

 
It was narrated that Abu Haiyah said, he saw 'Ali (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) performing ablution and he washed his feet up to the ankles, then he said : 'I wanted to show you how your Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) purified himself.'
 
 
Sunan Ibn Majah, Vol 1, Book 1, Hadith # 191
 
 
It was narrated from Miqdam bin Ma'dikarib (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) washed his feet three times. 
 
Sunan Ibn Majah, Vol 1, Book 1, Hadith # 192
 
 
It was narrated that Rubai' (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہا) said : 'Ibn 'Abbas (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) came to me and asked me about this Hadith' meaning the Hadith, that she had narrated, saying that the Apostle of Allah () performed ablution and washed his feet. "Ibn 'Abbas (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) said 'the people are insisting on washing their feet, but I do not find anything in the Qur'an except (the injunction to) wipe them.'
 
 

CHAPTER (57)

بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي الْوُضُوءِ عَلَى مَا أَمَرَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى

What is related about Wudu as per the command of Allah, the Most High 
 
 
 
Sunan Ibn Majah, Vol 1, Book 1, Hadith # 193
 
 
It was narrated that Jami' bin Shaddad Abu Sakhrah - said : 'I heard Humran telling Abu Burdah (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) in the mosque that he had heard 'Uthman bin 'Affan (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) narrating that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) had said 'whoever performs ablution perfectly as Allah has enjoined, then his prescribed prayer will serve as expiation for what is between them.'
 
 
Sunan Ibn Majah, Vol 1, Book 1, Hadith # 194

 
Ali bin Yahya bin Khallad narrated, from his father, from his paternal uncle Rifa'ah bin Rafi (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) that : He was sitting with the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) who said : 'No person's prayer is complete until he performs ablution properly as Allah has commanded him, washing his face, his arms up to the elbows, wiping his head and his feet up to the ankles.'
 
 

CHAPTER (58)

بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي النَّضْحِ بَعْدَ الْوُضُوءِ

What is related about sprinkling water after Wudu
 
 
 
Sunan Ibn Majah, Vol 1, Book 1, Hadith # 195

 
It was narrated from Hakam bin Sufyan Ath-Thawri (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) that : He saw the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) perform ablution then take a handful of water and sprinkle it over his private area to remove any doubts about urine drippings.
 
 
Sunan Ibn Majah, Vol 1, Book 1, Hadith # 196
 
 
Usamah bin Zaid narrated that his father Zaid bin Harithah (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) said :'The Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said : 'Jibril (عليه السلام) taught me (how to perform) the ablution, and he ordered me to sprinkle water underneath my garment, lest a drop of urine leak out after the ablution.'
 
There are other chains for this Hadith with similar wording.

It was narrated that Abu Huraira (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) said, the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said : 'When you perform ablution, sprinkle water.'
 
 
Sunan Ibn Majah, Vol 1, Book 1, Hadith # 198
 
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، حَدَّثَنَا عَاصِمُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، حَدَّثَنَا قَيْسٌ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، قَالَ تَوَضَّأَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ فَنَضَحَ فَرْجَهُ ‏.‏
 
It was narrated that Jabir (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) said, 'the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) performed ablution and sprinkled his private part.'
 
 

CHAPTER (59)

بَابُ الْمِنْدِيلِ بَعْدَ الْوُضُوءِ وَبَعْدَ الْغُسْلِ

Drying oneself with a cloth after Wudu or Ghusl
 
 
 
Sunan Ibn Majah, Vol 1, Book 1, Hadith # 199
 
 
Umm Hani' bint Abu Talib (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہا) narrated that when it was the year of the Conquest (of Makkah), the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) got up to perform a bath and Fatimah (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہا) screened him. Then he took his garment and wrapped himself in it (such that it became like the towel used to dry oneself).
 
 
Sunan Ibn Majah, Vol 1, Book 1, Hadith # 200
 
 
It was narrated that Qais bin Sa'd (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) said, 'the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) came to us and we gave him water to perform a bath.' Then we brought him a Warshiyyah cloth, and he wrapped himself in it. It is as if I can see the marks of the wars on the folds of his stomach.'
 
 
Sunan Ibn Majah, Vol 1, Book 1, Hadith # 201
 
 
Ibn 'Abbas narrated that his maternal aunt Ummul Momineen Maimunah (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہا)  said : 'I brought a piece of cloth (for drying) to the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) when he took bath to cleanse himself from sexual impurity. He refused it and began to shake off water.'
 
 
Sunan Ibn Majah, Vol 1, Book 1, Hadith # 202
 
 
It was narrated from Salman Al-Farisi (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) performed ablution, then he turned inside out the woolen garment that he was wearing and wiped his face with it.
 
 

CHAPTER (60)

بَابُ مَا يُقَالُ بَعْدَ الْوُضُوءِ

What is to be said after Wudu
 
 
 
Sunan Ibn Majah, Vol 1, Book 1, Hadith # 203
 
 
It was narrated from Anas bin Malik (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) that the Prophet  (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said : 'Whoever performs ablution and does it well, then says three times -  أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لاَ شَرِيكَ لَهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ [I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, with no partner, and I bear witness that Mohammad is His servant and His Apostle], eight gates of Paradise will be opened for him; whichever one he wants he may enter.'
 
There is another chain for this Hadith with similar wording.
 
 
 
Sunan Ibn Majah, Vol 1, Book 1, Hadith # 204

 
It was narrated that 'Umar bin Khattab (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) said, the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said : 'There is no Muslim who performs ablution and does it well, then says -  أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ [I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Apostle),' (except that) eight gates of Paradise will be opened for him, and he will enter through whichever one he wants.'
 
 

CHAPTER (61)

بَابُ الْوُضُوءِ بِالصُّفْرِ

Sunan Ibn Majah, Vol 1, Book 1, Hadith # 205

 
It was narrated that 'Abdullah bin Zaid (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ), the Companion of the Prophet, said : 'The Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) came to us, and we brought water for him in a vessel of brass, and he performed ablution with it.'
 
 
Sunan Ibn Majah, Vol 1, Book 1, Hadith # 206
 
 
It was narrated from Ummul Momineen Zainab bint Jahsh (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہا) that she had a tub of brass. She said : 'I used to comb the hair of the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) in it.
 
 
Sunan Ibn Majah, Vol 1, Book 1, Hadith # 207
 
 
It was narrated from Abu Huraira (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) performed ablution using (the water in) a vessel made of brass.
 
 

CHAPTER (62)

بَابُ الْوُضُوءِ مِنَ النَّوْمِ

Wudu after sleep
 
 
 
Sunan Ibn Majah, Vol 1, Book 1, Hadith # 208
 
 
It was narrated that Ummul Momineen A'isha (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہا) said : 'The Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) would fall asleep until he was breathing deeply, then he would get up and offer the prayer, and he did not perform ablution.'  Tanafisi said: "Waki` said : 'She meant while he was prostrating (he would sleep).'
 
 
Sunan Ibn Majah, Vol 1, Book 1, Hadith # 209
 
 
It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) slept until he was breathing deeply, then he got up and prayed.
 
 
Sunan Ibn Majah, Vol 1, Book 1, Hadith # 210
 
 
It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) said : 'He would sleep like that while he was sitting up.'
 
 
Sunan Ibn Majah, Vol 1, Book 1, Hadith # 211
 
 
It was narrated from 'Ali bin Abu Talib (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said : the eye is the leather strap (that ties up) the anus, so whoever falls asleep, let him perform ablution (because during the sleep the muscles of anus get loosened and wind breaks easily and the man does not know about it as he is sleeping). 
 
 
Sunan Ibn Majah, Vol 1, Book 1, Hadith # 212

 
It was narrated that Safwan bin 'Assal (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) said, 'the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) used to command us not to take off our leather socks for three days (during the travel) except in the case of sexual impurity, but not in the case of defecation, urination or sleep.'
 
 

CHAPTER (63)

بَابُ الْوُضُوءِ مِنْ مَسِّ الذَّكَرِ

Wudu after touching the penis

It was narrated that Busrah bint Safwan (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) said, the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said, if anyone of you touches his penis, let him perform ablution.'
 
 
Sunan Ibn Majah, Vol 1, Book 1, Hadith # 214

 
It was narrated that Jabir bin 'Abdullah (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) said, the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said : 'If anyone of you touches his penis, then he has to perform ablution.'

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا الْمُعَلَّى بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ بَشِيرِ بْنِ ذَكْوَانَ الدِّمَشْقِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا مَرْوَانُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا الْهَيْثَمُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا الْعَلاَءُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ، عَنْ مَكْحُولٍ، عَنْ عَنْبَسَةَ بْنِ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ، عَنْ أُمِّ حَبِيبَةَ، قَالَتْ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ـ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ يَقُولُ ‏ "‏ مَنْ مَسَّ فَرْجَهُ فَلْيَتَوَضَّأْ ‏"‏ ‏.‏
 
It was narrated that Ummul Momineen Umm Habibah () said, she heard the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) say : 'Whoever touches his sexual organ then let him perform ablution.'

It was narrated that Abu Ayyub (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) said, he heard the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) say : 'Whoever touches his sexual organ, let him perform ablution.'
